How Kerala’s growth prospects eying tourism are being washed away by the pandemic?

The blanket cover over the tourism industry is not going to hurt only the travellers but millions of people also who depend massively on travel and tourism industry directly or indirectly. It is still unknown that when the things will get bounce back to normalcy. One thing is clear, the time takes to overcome the damage made by the Covid induced lockdown in all sectors will be longer than expected. Travel and hospitality industry is one of the sectors that has deeply tasted the bitterness of the pandemic. The developing countries are going to be the worst-hit in terms of loss of revenue as they depend travel and hospitality industry heavily. Does India Have Better Business Environment Still?

World Bank released its 'Ease of Doing Business Index 2019" on 31 October 2018. India managed to jump in the list of countries by 'Ease of Doing Business Index' by 23 places to 77 from 100 in 2017. India just improved the overall position, remarkable anyway. But India is still at 137th on "starting a business", 166th on "property registration", 163rd on "enforcing contracts", 121st on "paying taxes" and 108th on "resolving insolvency". These topics are not insignificant in 'ease of doing business'. How does India promote business without correcting this serious limitation? Will the better performed indicators bring the businesses automatically? Before celebrating the achievement, we need to work hard on the poor status of above said topics on which India has serious dullness. It is really distressing that we ranked just 137th among 190 countries on the most fundamental indicator 'starting business'. H...

Why should Kerala be Bothered on its Governance?

The recently out Public Affairs Index (PAI) 2018 put the state of Kerala on the top of the list among the states and union territories in India. It was just as expected. It was in fact mere a continuation of the most celebrated 'Kerala Model'. It's been pretty clear that the State Government's role in molding the so called Model is vital. We would come to know that State Government's role has been significant for the state being ranked top in the list of states and union territories. However, we should discuss whether the State's current position on governance is satisfactory and what are the themes and focus subjects on which the State should be bothered about. Whether Kerala's Governance is Satisfactory and What are the Themes on which Kerala should be Bothered About? Kerala could dominate only on five themes out of ten as per the PAI 2018. However, it should be examined that whether the domination over these themes are absolute or relative. It is qui...
